Hey there! There is always a way to improve it but first it needs to be built, tried and experimented. Currently, I have no tools, resources nor time to build such a device. If I am to build it one day I would surrely share it to everyone.
I am thinking steel air tank with 300+ psi range. Combustion chamber is 70cm long at least, diameter is 20+ cm. A good high infrared termal system to preheat chamber, like I mentioned perhaps a sequred quartz tubes from heating elemnts. Think about loading energy into your cannon before the shot is taken. Bigger the combustion chamber the better
Only problem I could think of is ignition system blowing out the barrel, valve disintegration that connects the two chambers, or some of the chambers busting. You would need sturdy valve secured aditionally in metal casing. That is why thick high carbon steel would have to be machined.
But hey, If I could film that first and last shot then you go on from that. One damage video is all I need.
