yes, it is called "foamies". a 12X12 sheet of the stuff costs around a dollar. it also works great as a sealing face. i even made an O-ring seal out of the stuff once

BTW, it rips easily, dont let the fins actually touch the barrel............

More ammo ideas:
Fram oil filters(and probably most others) fit perfectly in 3 inch sch40 (might make a good 3" piston too!).
Most 3-pack tennis ball tubes will also fit in 3" sch40.

well i just read the 7 pages..i have noticed arrow bolts have not been covered yet, now i have tried this and it works a treat, full sized bow/crossbow bolts with the fletching and all work brilliant from 20mm (3/4") barrels, the fins roll over inside the barrel and with the help of a decent wax or similar sabot can make a very accurate and dangerous munition.

I have yet to try this, but for a smallbore gun, you can make a nail dart using a q-tip, the kind with the hollow plastic shaft. Or use a coffee stirrer or even a straw. You can cut the nail head off or leave it on, depending on the size of nail and q-tip/straw.

Does baby carrots work well with 1/2" barrels?

I just recently made nail darts today using nails, a cone made of magazine paper coated in duct tape, and a wooden bead on the end of the nail to stabilize the cone. I haven't tried it out for range yet, but accuracy wise, it works great! At 20 PSI on my smallest rifle, it lodged itself permanetly into a brick of foam with deadly accuracy.
By the way, has anyone tried transforming a nail into a mini arrow/bolt? I tried today using a breakaway sabot, but I don't want to test it inside, and I've somewhat run out of sufficient open field space...
Also, Chaos, how do you sabot your arrows and bolts?

i sabot them with a wax cast of my barrel i-d, i useually cut it into 4 quarters and put one wrap of electrical tape around it to hold it together, doing that helps the arrow discard the sabot upon exit of the muzzle.

note: i load the gun before i charge it with these, this is for the reason of the bolts being longer than my breech can use they need to be muzzle loaded, which could possibly cause the piston to be pushed open and the arrow coming out at you, very dangerous i only use these for hunting so be very careful.

Thanks, but do you think you should post some pictures or something? I'm more of a visual learner, and I'm confused about where the tape goes and where/how the sabot is placed... By the way, good idea with the loading routine. Perhaps instead, you could put a cheap ball valve safety between the valve and the barrel to better solve the problem...

oh yer the safety ball valve is an ok idea but it would realy wreck the design of my gun (you would have to see it to understand how it would wreck it) , plus i would have to find some 1/4" nipples somwhere and there a b!tch to find at work, they aint used that often where i work.

Oh yeah, for my first cannon (which sucked) I used chewed gum as ammunition. It actually went pretty well. Just take it out of your mouth, roll it into a decent ball, and either freeze it or roll it in flour so it doesn't stick to your barrel. Also, if you try firing mortar pellets, they just explode into a white cloud.

So long story short, I think I found a perfect "ligitimate" use for spud guns. Apparently, some people have trouble throwing these dip nets for catching bait.
I don't have a net, so I haven't tried it yet But, if someone else could try it, that would be great. I just think it would be sweet to be able to shoot a net out of a gun, like the police.

a net sounds pretty cool... but you'd need a big barrel or a fine net if you want to catch decent sized fish or a person with it. but it would be cool.

I have found a couple ammo ideas for 2" SDR-26

#1 4oz Oatey brand PVC primer and cement cans. Very close, but not tight fit in barrel.

#2 4oz Krylon craft paint spray cans, you can find these at walmart in the crafts section. They are smaller diameter then normal spray paint cans and are about 4-5 inches tall. These have a very, very, close fit.

#3 The 9oz aluminum suave foam mousse cans, the have a spherical top and require a little tape in 2" SDR-26 but will probably work great in 2" SCH40. They make a nice foam explosion, when full of mousse.

#4 The spray cheese cans you find in the cracker/potato chips section at grocery stores. They are the ones with the little plastic tip that squirts out chess when you bend it sideways. These things are awesome, you couldn't squeeze a hair between one of these and your barrel. They are about $2.00 at Dollar General, but everyone loves cheese and if you fire them while they are still full of cheese.. LOOK OUT! I call them C.I.C.R. (Constipation Inducing Cheese Round).
