I'd go for a modern 7.62x51 assault rifle like the HK417 or FN SCAR-H personally, better long range accuracy and penetrating power, particularly if steel cored bullets are used.use a reliable automatic shotgun, loaded with at least 00 buck

How well would that work against a creature that weighs several metric tons, and has at least 12" of tissue between its hard skin and any vital organ?
I'd take an M107 with explosive tipped finned and saboted rounds personally, with the assault rifle firing armor piercing carbide rounds for backup. Maybe a .50 pistol with custom Staballoy heavy rounds too.
Maybe throw in a few anti-tank mines for the perimeter defense, just to liven things up...

I was assuming that you were more likely to be fighting a raptor, which would have been fast and nimble. For that, you can't wait for precise shots, you need to be able to fill the air with as much lead as possible now. In those situations, I would take an auto shotgun over an assault rifle. The assault rifle would be good at range, but when it got too close, which is a situation could be in, the shotgun would have the edge. Most of these 'saurs are only able to kill within arm's reach. The shotgun would be good for killing at many times that.
You would of course be accompanied by a couple people who did have assault rifles, someone (or probably two) with drum fed grenade launchers, a specialist with the M107, a mate with another auto shotgun, and finally a guy with a flamethrower.
So that will easily handle big stuff at mid range and long range, medium stuff from reasonably close to mid-long range, and small stuff at short range. If something really big gets in close, it might be harder, but if you could use the lighter weapons to injure and drive it back, you could then finish it with the heavier stuff. Small stuff at longer ranges will always be hard to cope with.
That is the way you should do it, not one twit with a pump-action trying to get the raptor to hunt his hat. That would strike fear into any 'saurs that even thought about trying to escape.

This thread pwns.
And I was thinking of the big stuff. An automatic 12 gauge with 00 buck, or HE slugs, would be better for the raptors. A group is almost always better for these situations anyway. I assume these would be the armaments of those rapid response teams of yours Rag?

I love this forums, starts out as ideas for a new combustion, then in tramples a fluorescent pink elephant and before you know it, we're hunting raptors.
As DYI mentioned, penetration is a big issue which is why 00 buck isn't a good idea compared to one of these rounds, the M948 Saboted Light Armor Penetrator, that IIRC can go through 20mm of rolled homogenous steel armor at realistic combat ranges.
Of course lugging enough ammo around would be exhausting, but I'd rather have my ass covered.
Assault rifles do this very well, especially given one of these:For that, you can't wait for precise shots, you need to be able to fill the air with as much lead as possible now.

Well, I've never shot at raptors (and hope I don't have to, especially ZOMBIE raptors). If I did, I wouldn't want that. I would want something like this maybe mounted on a pink florescent elephant.

That mini-gun clip is insane, it look's like a battle field in the night shots
Holy-crap that gun eats ammo and probly barrels too.

It has two firing modes, 3,000 or 6,000 rounds per minute - that means a maximum of 100 rounds per second on the trigger - it's the cloud strafer of the "real steel" world

What a weird discussion.
The velociraptor was no larger than a human even in the film, and in reality was a far sight smaller again (and probably feathered, believe it or not) - Errors in Jurassic Park
For that, a shotgun would do the job - if it will work against a human, there is no reason I can see why it wouldn't deal with the film's raptor just as well. Still, if an auto shotgun wasn't available, then I'd be straight for the assault rifles of course.
In the end, debating it won't help, we're going to need some proof. We need to find a wealthy backer, and some mad scientists. We might also be able to draw off some funds for machining the ultimate anti-dinosaur firearm as well.
It'll be like Westworld, but more dangerous and fun.

A raptor would presumably have a harder skin and be more akin to a human wearing body armour. For that, a shotgun would do the job - if it will work against a human, there is no reason I can see why it wouldn't deal with the film's raptor just as well.
Of course if your auto shotgun was firing unitary flechettes then I would say it was suitable, but at that point you might as well be using an assault rifle.

A harder and thicker skin yes, but it's not ceramic and kevlar.
I'll find the shotgun, you find the biologically incorrect raptors, then we'll give it a shot (pun present, possibly intended).
