I agree with schmanman and that bigger is always better. Launching a projectile thats bigger than a can of soda farther than you can see is most gratifying.

and when you ride your dirtbike 1/2 a mile to find that pop can, and you can only find half, and the concave ends of the can look like spheres about to pop off the can because they are so convex, well, that makes you feel happy.


or when you fold a large 1/4 inch steel plate in half, or shoot a half pound or pound of steel through 8 sheets of plywood of varying conditions and thicknesses, and........

I could go on and on.

Yeah, I agree with SpudBlaster I don't really have a favorite. It just depends on what I want to do at the time. I really enjoy my ultra portable mini's like the minipumps just because I can carry them anywhere and shoot them easily, but at the same time it is enjoyable to take out a high ROF mid-sized gun to decimate a target. Then there are of course the high power single shot guns that are great for high satisfaction destruction.

I enjoy keeping things hand held mostly for storage reasons, but large mounted launchers have their place in my heart as well.

Well, I prefer many different types of cannons, it all depends on my state of mind, and the conditions around me.

That's what I do too, something inspires me, usually a cannon, and then I wont stop until I build my own version or something better comes along.

I never replicate a cannon unless I want too, I always set out to make a better version of multiple cannons, by using different aspects and design features from each cannon.

Every one that I look at has something that I like. The ideas of others are often the fuel for creativity, adding or changing something to make it unique. The big launchers have crushing power, the smaller ones are perhaps more usable and precise. At the moment, I have to side with smaller, and portable.

Massive launchers are also very entertaining, though the lack of portability and long reload times, etc. make them difficult to become truly attached to IMO. Besides, once you get to that scale, you might as well do the "job" with explosives/oxidizer carrying solid propellants (Golf ball at Mach 2 anyone?).

I can load the swat with a dissasembled barrel into the bed of our truck, stick the compressor inside, and take it just about anywhere (with a power outlet, until I get my high cfm gas powered compressor. )


you get very attached to it, I would throw my bb rifle off a cliff or into a bog if it meant I could keep the swat.


the reload times are not that slow, especially with a breech loader.

I can get a shot per minute (which is relatively fast for the size of the cannon)

and compressed air is still loads of fun, and much cheaper than solid propellents in the quanity needed to power a gun of the swat's size.

I prefer medium sized to small sized cannons. I like cannons that fire things like golfballs that are somewhat portible because I can hardly shoot anything around my house(very noise sensitive neighbors)I shoot them all of at are airsoft field inbetween games.And I am also limited by that stupid bike pump.I tend to just get more satasification from something going through a computer monitor than blasting it back twenty feet.

I like it either very big and powerful, or small, compact, and have a fast fire rate. What I'm building now is small and rapid fire.
By big and powerful I mean howizter-power. Theres no point in building anything in between. Its less work to buy a double 12 ga, hack it down to legal limit and blow some stuff away.
Anyway, when I mean howizter power, I mean lots and LOTS of power. I'll probably build one of those when I move out of CA (or at least to a more rural area). It should have no problem launching melons more than a 1/4 mile, or larger, solider things like spent propane tanks (for the small camp stove) all the way thru a house.

I have to disagree. In a choice between going and "blowing stuff away" with a 12 gauge, a rifle, or my HEAL - I'd pick HEAL in an instant, because it's so much more fun than the rifle or shotgun - it may not have a quarter of the power or anywhere near the accuracy, but it's fun.
I don't have much interest in owning firearms just for the sake of destruction. I have spudguns because I built them - I would certainly never buy a pre-built spudgun. Maybe one day I'll buy a good air rifle, but there's a part of me in my spudguns (and I don't mean because bits of my fingers have been cut off in the piston mechanism!), which is what makes them special.

Of all the cartridges I've fired (.22 LR, 5.56x45 NATO, 12 gauge), none of them was a tenth of the fun I get from firing the launcher I poured my heart, soul and effort into.
And it's not just me. I have friends that have also fired similar firearms to me, and they're always more impressed by the spudguns than they ever were by the real firearms.

As far as I'm concerned, firearms are for killing things, spudguns are for fun. It's not the destruction you created, but the fun you had doing it. If you can enjoy yourself with a pill-bottle mini, even if it has trouble punching through a cereal box, then that's all you need.
