Its true firearms are for killing. I own an SKS, its supposedly the "poor man's deer rifle", but I didn't buy it to kill things. I bought it for cheap, high-power pinking. .22LR was fun for a while, but it didn't last. 7.62x39 is really fun. Its like little explosions when the bullet collides with stuff.
I'm hoping to get the same out of a spud gun, but without the stupid laws. And on a much larger scale. The firearms are in-between. small, powerful projectiles that are accurate and do quite a bit of localized damage. But they lack the destruction of spud guns could bring.

I just perfer firearms becaue I'm more familiar with them. They also come pre-assembled, easy to maintain and operate, and have nice, prepackaged ammo at a very affordable price.

To me, building a spud gun is like an design and engineering challenge. The destruction is the fun part.
My interest on spud guns began when I couldn't legally buy guns.
Now its because my guns are too loud to legally shoot.

Its not like it was legal to being with, but they don't offer subsonic 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R. They only have subsonic .22 long. Thats no fun stuff doesn't explode.

i like to build something and shoot it for a day then give it away. for me it is definitely the design and the build of any cannon type. whether it's as small as .177 steel BBs or a soda pop bottle/50-400psi or nice combustion that fires consistently i always get excited. :D

I have to disagree. In a choice between going and "blowing stuff away" with a 12 gauge, a rifle, or my HEAL - I'd pick HEAL in an instant, because it's so much more fun than the rifle or shotgun - it may not have a quarter of the power or anywhere near the accuracy, but it's fun.
I don't have much interest in owning firearms just for the sake of destruction. I have spudguns because I built them - I would certainly never buy a pre-built spudgun. Maybe one day I'll buy a good air rifle, but there's a part of me in my spudguns (and I don't mean because bits of my fingers have been cut off in the piston mechanism!), which is what makes them special.

Of all the cartridges I've fired (.22 LR, 5.56x45 NATO, 12 gauge), none of them was a tenth of the fun I get from firing the launcher I poured my heart, soul and effort into.
And it's not just me. I have friends that have also fired similar firearms to me, and they're always more impressed by the spudguns than they ever were by the real firearms.

As far as I'm concerned, firearms are for killing things, spudguns are for fun. It's not the destruction you created, but the fun you had doing it. If you can enjoy yourself with a pill-bottle mini, even if it has trouble punching through a cereal box, then that's all you need.
You do raise a good point, one of which I agree with: firing a spudgun is much more satisfying than just buying something, because you built it yourself. It's almost like a little voice in your head that always says "Look, I built something that can shoot produce through floppy drives."

However, I still disagree with your opinion that weapons are for killing and not for fun. Spudguns are fun for destroying things or seeing damage whereas I like shooting my rifle just to see how good I am with a rifle as well as seeing how steady and accurate I am. Also, there are some mechanics to firearms that I enjoy. Much like how you (Ragnarok) tried to make as much sound as you could with your bolt action in your video, I too enjoy the sound of rifle mechanics. To me, it is really satisfying on the shooting range to fire a shot to then bring a new round with a lever action. Not only does it sound really cool, but feels really smooth as well.

Also, I do like shotguns, but I don't like trap shooting. Instead I like to to go Quail hunting. I do know some people don't like the idea of it, but I don't care what other people think about my hobbies. The fact of the matter is: I like the 'thrill of the hunt". Just like it is satisfying to see that you can put a dart through a Euro coin, to me it is really satisfying to see that at the end of the day I can shoot down two or three birds, and then go home and make quail for dinner.

And that is what I feel about the matter.

sorry for not reply on this thread for a while i was down by a sickness.

i like ragnaroks point it is just that way i feel it. i like to shoot things i can know for sure most people never has shoot. the only firearm that can overgo spud guns is a .50 sniper (witch i have shot) the bullets punch big blocks of a mountain at 1000 yards!

my next cannon is going to be a copper coaxial mounted in my air rifle stock.
