Im not sure since, real steel bullets, do not tend to form to take the shape of the rifling. Granted, they expand slightly on firing, causing them to grip but this is limited if the bullets do not have a "cup" on the back which the gases widen. however I wouldn't like to be quoted on this, it is just how I've always believed rifling works

In Spud guns obviuosly the spud does take the shape of the rifling since it is soft, real rifling is different.

I beleive that bullets are typicaly made somewhat bigger than the inside of the riffling lands, so that they are forced into the grove, cup or not.

That being said, preformance increases due to better-fitting projectiles are a combination of less leakage (blowby) and, especialy in combustions, allowing some pressure to build up before launch.

bullets are about the size of the barrel, when the gun powder combusts all the hot gasses expand the bullet causing it to 'dig' into the rifling.

Did you see the post about ice ammo, someone used plastic easter eggs for molds, filled with water, clamped a screw clamp around it, frooze it waalaa instant ammo, and at the rite price also! You can find just about anything to make a mold out of.

Fully frozen 20 oz soda bottles fit in 3" pipe. Today I shattered 3/4" oak(?) plywood with one of these 20 oz ice bullets. I'll get you some pics.

Word of advice: There is a fine line between snug and too sung. If there is too much friction you will lose a lot of power in the shots.
