Decline in spudgun popularity
THIS is interesting... There has been an increase in searches for "pneumatic gun"! "Potato Gun" has the highest search rate of them all.
or maybe it is the rude and unwilling additude toward the newbie;
that is asking the same questions that the advanced spudder has awnsered a million times allready...

I have to admit, I dont ever recall typing in the words "pnematic gun" or "spud gun" on google. But I have on Youtube.
"Dude, if all of the people on spudfiles got together with all of their cannons, we could take over china"
As an "Advanced Spudder" which I think we would need to a definition which everyone can agree on, I dont mind answering newb questions if the people have thoroughly searched for answers themselves. I mean it took me a while to understand piston valves but with enough reading the wiki and reading post's about piston valves when they'd come up I finally understand the concept but have yet to build one.
As far as the "decline" of spudgun searches, I really don't know what to think about all that. I really dont understand why you would look at something like that with any interest. Since most spudgunners dont actively advertise the hobby, mostly due to local laws. Fortunately I live in the US where they are legal for the most part. Therefore, I agree with benstern about his posting on the first page of this thread.
I for one am proud to be a Spud Gunner, and I will always go out of my way to tell people about my hobby.
Who's with me??

Word!, Bro... Maybe because I'm a somewhat older spudder, but I don't hold back at all. Most people are big eyed curious when the subject comes up. A lot of it is perception...if people think you're a punk pyro, you're not going to get much respect.BigGrib wrote:I for one am proud to be a Spud Gunner, and I will always go out of my way to tell people about my hobby.

It really just means the you're always being a responsible and safe spudder, no matter what age you are. If you're credible, people will show genuine interest.

I have no idea what I did, but I dont get any respect from the people that know me. I build one pnematic and all of a sudden Im a terrorist. People dont even trust me near a fire any more. FFS, some people in my school have never heard of the word spud.

We feel your pain buddy, maybe try looking at it as a chance to "educate" the unbeleivers!pvcpsyco wrote:I have no idea what I did, but I dont get any respect from the people that know me. BigGrib - I think its much harder for young people to be taken seriously. Although my friends do enjoy coming and watching, very few would ever build a cannon, and some will not even fire them. I don't usually tell adults, particularly those I don't know well, as paranoia is all the rage here.
I do tell most of my friends, but it is unusual, and it isn't something I usually tell people about until I get to know them better. When it comes to it I am proud, because I feel although the skills I can apply to other things I gain from it are limited, I do enjoy it loads, and it is entertaining for people.

Only reporters and other hype vultures could have possibly tried to search for such a thing.

By the way, if the above link appears to not work, I suggest you read the page closer - it's supposed to look like that.

Where I live, they think me owning an air rifle is extrmely dangerous, but driving an SUV is somehow safer.
So yeah, I try to stay quiet about my potato cannons
