8 inch Mortar
A friend of mine gave me a piece of 6 inch and 8 inch pipe so i built another mortar with the 8 inch. it has a 1/2 inch ball valve to add the fuel (disinfectant spray) i also use a air tank to air out the chamber instead of a fan. bbq sparker ignition. it shoots ok but im planning on adding a bigger ball valve to make it easier to add fuel and adding a 5 or 6 inch baffle to increase chamber pressure. i blocked off the base with a 8 inch diameter 2 inch wide solid rubber tire.
Edit: oh ya go ahead and flame me for drilling through single layer. but it dont seem to build much pressure as is. the wall thickness is the same as a 4 inch sch 40 pressure rated btw.

Gotta love the big bores 8)
I'd like to see the performance when you add a restriction

Awesome! Does the tire have the rim in it still?
I like the tire breech idea.
I like the fill through the BV also.
Nice military look too. 8)

ya the tire still has the rim. as for ammo i shot a couple 8 inch balls out of it, one was a normal kick ball. they were not that heavy so im planning on getting a soccer ball and maybe add some water in it. the good thing about these balls is i can add air or let air out to fit the barrel snug.

Sweet mortar! Are you going to post a video of it in action? Also, Do you have anything stopping the ball from being shoved down too far?
Great job!
Jeff

is the video not showing up? its right under my original text. i dont have anything stopping the ball, it fits tight enough that it wont move after i shove it down about half way.

Wow, that thing is huge! You are starting to get a nice collection of military-looking guns there, keep it up.

Very nice
But you obviously arnt getting a very good mix, I would reccomend a propane meter.

Sort of a fat lady mortar there. Nice idea though. I could see some fun summer afternoons running some children and pets ragged with one of those...they sleep much better that way... 8)
I do like your collection very much. Did you ever get your propane fueling worked out on the howitzer?

you couldnt of said it any better! as for that &$*#^ propane meter its still not working, im gonna make another one and try it. the baseball gun has a mind of its own i tell ya, now it wont work with disenfectant spray anymore, only hairspray. sticky situation.starman wrote:I could see some fun summer afternoons running some children and pets ragged with one of those...they sleep much better that way... 8)
Such large bores always deserve respect, awesome thing you got there!
Though the performance doesnt look very powerful to me (for its size, that is), I think you should certainly crank it up with a chamber fan.
Proper mixing of fuel can really add up alot of power, especially in a large chamber with one single injection point.
Propane metering would also make it better ofcourse.
Btw, in that one pic that shows the bottom part of it, is that a crack in the center of the plug?
