Steel!..ohhh hello 2000kg cannon..lol but an 8"cannon would be insane the person that made it would ge some definite respect...

A pneumatic that size would have lower preformance than a comparable combustion, short of using 4+ supah valves (or similar).
Never mind the increased mass, complexity, and cost.

The person that made it would get a massive shoulder dent. Imagine the recoil on something that large, even without ammo it would be like firing a rocket into your shoulder. It wouldn't be safe to hold something that large, if it's even possible. Something with that big of a chamber would need to be dug into the ground and held up with a stand. I can just imagine the power a tank that size could give you.

What if it was made into a giant piston valve gun, what the hell would you make the piston out of?Imagine the recoil off a water shot it would probably kcik through a brick wall.So is any one going to fork out a few hunfed dollars and make one?because it would be way cool!
You guys got no conceprt of recoil do you?
The force on the launcher is the same as the force on the projectile. We use the equation Force=Mass x Accelleration for this. Lets say for simplicity's sake that the Mass of the projectile is 5 kg, the launcher is 25 kg and the force in both directions (since it's equal and opposite) is 50 kg-m/s/s.
Plugging the projectile end into the equation shows us that the accelleration of the projectile is 100 meters per secons per second.
50 kg-m/s/s / .5 kg = 100 m/s/s
Plugging the launcher numbers into the equation shows us that the accelleration of the launcher is significantly less. It gives a whole whopping 2 mewters per second per second.
50 kg-m/s/s / 25 kg = 2 m/s/s
One can argue that because the momentum is the same, that these two objects should have the same destructive power, but that really isn't true in our case because the accelleration of the launcher is easily overcome by whatever/whoever is holding it.

I'm not really talking about recoil, I'm saying it would be like holding a jet. The air itself would propell it backwards.

Umm, no. No it wouldn't.
You can go ahead and calculate what accelleration would act in the two directions by counting the gasses inside as a projectile but I promise you then that it would be WAY less because now there isn't as much force in the two directions.
Go try it yourself. Take a 4" pipe and cap an end and put some wadding in the pipe. Meter in some propane and watch nothing move as it fires.

That made me grin and chuckle. I'll shut up now.

your points are well said and make sense but you can't blame those guys... entirely
odds are no one's going to attempt one of these mammoth launchers, so quit dreaming and do something if you must (comment not directly aimed at anyone but it's true). i love parenthesis (alot).
these titan launchers aren't worth anyone's time or money, u will get the same result on any regular launcher, a boom and a woosh as the projectile soars thru the air.

Okay kids. Who can tell me what doesn't belong?noname wrote:I'm just gonna buy two caps and drill a fat hole and stick a schrader and valve if they let me have it. Imagine the whole pipe at 95 psi, then blasting hmmmm... maybe a BB. That would go thru someone.
That's right kids. The one about SHOOTING PEOPLE!
I hope that wasn't your INTENTION and not just a misunderstood side note...
