No. Not unless the check valve was one which allowed flow from both branches of the tee into the stem, in which case it probably still wouldn't work unless the valve was already made like a piston valve.

i mean that a piston valve is basicaly a check valve with a rod instead of a sphere and if you could just cut a slit on the inside so it dosnt seal completly and would be your eqaulization hole.you would have to have the chamber atached to the valve like normaly and have small barrel touch where the valve seals.it would be like a coaxel gun.

Not really, because a check valve has only two ports and a piston valve has three.

i think i under stand what you are trying to say super...
if the flap was perfectly perpendicular to the pipes it might work. 2 problems though...
1. the flap already inside of the check valve would probalby not be soft enought to form a seal on the barrel
2. from what i have seen the flap is at an angle like this

EDIT: this would make more of a diaphram valve not a piston valve

you could cut the barel at an angle and it would probaly seal. but i was talking about a differnt type pf check valve, that is a swing arm check valve or somtjing like that. i am talking about the type that uses a ball to seal it.
a ball might be harder
first the barrel would have to be EXACLTY center in the barrel
second the end of the barrel would have to have a perfectly flat and almost polished surface.
third the barrel would have to be exactly in the right position forward or back so that it seeled on the barrel and in the original check valve

Simple answer, NO. Most check valves would be completely unsuitable as a firing valve, and I don't think any of them would be practical to modify. They simply don't work in the right manner.
The few that COULD be modified to work would require extraordinarily exacting work to adapt, and would probably cost you more than simply buying a QEV or making a fully custom-made piston valve.
