ok well i just finished building my first potato gun. instead of a lantern sparker which seems to be used the most i drilled a hole in the plug on the back of the gun and epoxied one of those long handled lighters. when i went to visit a friend in washington state i shot one with a lighter like this but ive never seen a pick online or heard about it so i was just wonderin if its safe or whatever.

Replace the endcap, With a lantern sparker or a BBQ ignitor or something, The igniter sometime is going to rocket out... and take your finger with it.

yea people have done it but its not a good idea not safe, plus the endcap is the weakest part of the gun, so get a new endcap, and get a diff igniter and put it in the side of the chamber NOT the endcap

wouldent the pressure from the canon go in through the lighter tube and blow the lighter plastic off or sring a leak and torch it... and... stun guns suck@!!!!!!@!# once u get shoked u will hate them use the expencive grill ignitors the ones with an automatic spark like the tazers but they arent so painfull...and they cheaper if you dont know what they are look at my ghetto gatorade gun

Umm... that's why you don't let yourself get shocked  . Just be careful and you should be fine.

I like using Lantern Igniters, they make nice hot flames\sparks...

BB Grill igniters work great

Utility lighter igniters work good, but are a pain in the ass sometimes...

Stun guns are obiously the best, and how the hell can you shock yourself? Unless your stupid and touching the terminals it's pretty hard to push the button to trigger the shock while holding a terminal, and it doesn't hurt that bad, I've got shocked 3 seconds by old of my friends and it just made my fall a little :D

The cheapo grill ignitors piss me off. A lantern ignitor would be good, but I don't think they are cool enough. Stun guns are awesome, and if you take the time to insulate yours well, you can't get shocked. And by the way, I see all these people using really heavy gauge wire on the electrodes from the stun gun. WHY? I took one apart before putting it back into a different type of box and the wires from the coils to the electrodes are really small, like the size of the wire they use on grill ignitors.

When I put the guts of my oldest stun gun in a case to use with my spud gun, it still sounds like a stun gun. Trust me, your mom WILL find out it is a stun gun.
Just a battery and a capacitor won't work, it requires more circuitry than that. Actually, just go get a disposable camera, or some other camera cheap (Goodwill, Salvation Army, yard sale, ETC) and the parts for the flash are supposed to make a decent spark. But be careful, a camera can give you a good shock if you aren't careful, and I would know.
