hey
I am planning to make a spud gun for airsoft that uses a burst disk firing mechanism. I want to do is make a warhead that carry`s non compacted bbs and plows up upon impact sending bbs flying. if it hit someone(which I wouldn`t be aiming at. I would aim to the side and hit the guy with the bb spray) I would also prefer it wouldn`t kill/seriously main him. Obviously no explosives. I was thinking of taping two coffee filters together with bbs inside but I don`t think that alone would do it. any help?

Well that`d work but what if it hit somebody.......ouch
I think if you decide to shoot someone with a compacted wad of bbs and the round bursts upon impact, that you have other issues besides trying to design the devise.....
With that said, you are wanting a sabot. I'm not going into too much detail, as I would really hate for someone to get shot by such a devise.
If you plan on shooting other non-living things, I know of just the right way to build this sabot. I've done it before and it can be quite devastating, even at lower pressures.

no.
I`m not planning to shoot any living thing,Its just that ,as I said, I play airsoft but if I was shooting at someone I`d shoot to the side of the guy and the bb spray would hit him. If someone somehow got in the way I just wouldn`t want to hurt him.But ya, I`m not planing to aim at annyone

Even if you aim "near" a person, there is still a chance that the projectile would hit them. This is just too risky to use like this and I would be p!$$3d (if I was not unconscious) if I got smacked with something like this.
Why not go with a shotgun type load?

the material I want to use for the war head is paper so it would be like getting hit by a grenade launcher.
also i`d keep the psi to a safe level
and I had made going shotgun a fall back plan

id use those paper ketup cup then cut to fit the barrel then fill with bb u could stick paper over it so when it goes out of the barrel it would fall away like a sabot
dont play with airsofter with 1000$ gun and play with a 5 dollar pair of glasses

If a person CAN be hit, you must assume that they WILL get hit. Be it bad aim, strong cross winds, an accidental trigger pull, or just somebody jumping out from behind the wrong rock at the wrong time, you MUST count on somebody taking a direct hit.boom shtick wrote:no.

To assume otherwise is folly.
Thus, where you would aim is irrelevant. You're going to design a projectile with which you WILL hit a person. Period. If it sprays BBs after impact, well, that's just icing on the proverbial cake. Now... How do you make it safe?

exactly! I am not AIMING at anyone but I am trying to make it safe so that if it DID hit someone it would be none worse than if he was hit by a grenade launcher because of the same reasons that d_hall just stated. Which is why I want to use something like paper for the war head.so any way, lets continue with figuring out how to do that, thanks
one thing that I looked over in hubbs first post is the compactid bb thing. I was thinking that the bbs would be loose somehow, so sory about that

How many BBs are you planning on this device holding? Keep in mind thta whatever the number is, you need to keep velocities down so that direct impact with this projectile isn't going to dislodge eye protection. In paintball that's a pretty significant impact. In airsoft, I gather the eye protection isn't nearly as robust....boom shtick wrote:thanks but I want the war head to complete a whole flight in-tact then hit something, blow up,and send the bbs flyingtwizi wrote:its this cup sorry for mispelled word
