Interesting, shame he's let down by the ball valve.
It is, however, not "high powered" by almost any standard, and certainly if it's home defense he's after it's woefully inadequate.

Reminds me of our "little beer drinking project" from work.
Of course, we had a better valve, a larger chamber ... and a 1 1/4" bore. 8)
Chunks of hickory dowel went ... surprisingly far.

Very nice pump. One that actualy works. It doesn't have the plastic gear noise of most emergency pumps.

I think he took something likethis meant to run off a car battery and hooked up a separate pack.grock wrote:where would you get something like this? i ran a google and ebay search for emergency air pump and battery powered air pump, but i got mostly air matress (low pressure) and aquarium pumps

I have pondered attaching a pump for ventilation as well as compression of hybrid chambers. This looks like one hell of a candidate pump. As far as the usefulness of the home defence device, he better hit them in the eye.

A bit of outload thinking: Imagin a self built pump with a gasoline engine(one stroke) connected to a simple compressor. You would need a rather large pump but isn't that a GREAT way to have on board air supplies and fairly high pressure?

Two?one stroke
That's hardly useful. Sure, you may get lucky and hit them directly in the middle of the eye, but in reality it won't stop any more than the average squirrel.

Something like this heavily geared down and hooked up through a crank to a shock pump would be an interesting proposition, however starting these little beasts every time is a bit of a hassle, electric sounds like a more convenient option. Look to things like chordless drills for powerful motors and batteries.john bunsenburner wrote:A bit of outload thinking: Imagin a self built pump with a gasoline engine(one stroke) connected to a simple compressor. well yeah but you would need something at least as powerful as a tyre compressor (which are pretty lame when compared with anything else as far as both flow & max pressure are concerned)...
and that means a lot of bulky batteries
It would be a better idea to build a filling station/compressor for HPA tanks

Nowhere near as good as the humble paintball tank.john bunsenburner wrote:A bit of outload thinking: Imagin a self built pump with a gasoline engine(one stroke) connected to a simple compressor. Granted, but given his clearly limited resources, he could have done worse. No point in inviting him on the forum to better his design though, given the purpose for which it was made.MRR wrote:I would prefer a Caselman AMG over this one.
you can get these Example Compressor pumps at the auto store you just have to take the casing off and set up a 9V system, could use RC batteries lots of different options, ive run many small projects off of multiple connected 9V batteries, hes probably got some rechargeables better yet a cordless drill battery
