hi

i' m french and i'm sorry for my poor english

i like gatling gun and after un larper version

i have a old project to create an airsoft gatling gun

i 've read lot of pages from internet and from this forum but i don't understand all things and i 've never found real documents which explain how does it work or plans

many people here had the same project, with ideas, videos, tests but i never found what i'm looking for

is anybody have some pics of how a BB or paintball gatling gun works ?
may be total electrical, maybe air and electrical, may be total air

in particulary the propulse system and the bb loading system

all i have is that, but really complex to built

It would be much easier to do a simulated Gatling gun and have a single barrel actually do the shooting, would this be acceptable? it would be something like this their would be a barrel in the middle and the faux barrels would rotate around it powered by an electric motor or something of the sort

i know this solution but without 6 working barrels is not fun

it is not a project for esthetic, just for technical challenge

Use a hammer valve/pushbutton valve on every chamber and make the top one being pressed in when it passes a thingy.

If you have access to some gears, as well as some knowledge on gear ratios, you could have a gear on the handle. And off that gear you can have 2 gear systems, one that cocks and activates a hammer valve, and one that turns the barrels. So as your turning the handle, the chamber moves to align the next barrel, as it gets aligned with the hammer valve, they hammer drops so it activates that barrels valve. Then you keep turning, the hammer gets slowly cocked, and as it reaches its peak, the next barrel is aligned and the hammer drops. And it continues.

Each barrel can be its own coaxial gun, with a push button exhaust port, so when the hammer hits the push button, the valve triggers.

The hammer will be cocked with gears, and when gears reach a certain point, the hammer valve is released.

EDIT:
The gear that cocks the hammer can have spurs a certain part of the circumference, so when the gear runs out of teeth, the hammer has no choice but to get pushed onto the valve (via the spring on the hammer), then the gear keeps turning, but because there is no teeth on it, it does nothing to the hammer, then as the section with teeth come back into play, the hammer begins to cock again.
Failure to plan is planning to fail.

Creating a valve timing mechanism is fairly easy. Solenoid valves with contacts, hammer/spool valves actuated by rotation of the barrels or a rotary valve will work.

Feeding ammunition is most difficult. You will either need a finger on each barrel to pick up a round at the bottom of it's travel, which is very difficult to do, or something similar to a magazine for each barrel (run parallel to barrel with a detent), or a central hopper which feeds centrifugally to the barrels with a breech for each barrel.

As a last resort, you could have a cloud or vortex feeding the rotating barrels.

Delivering the gas is easy, though if you come up with a more elegant feeding mechanism please let us know.

This is by far the easiest solution, it shouldn't be too hard to conjure up.

thanks for your answers

it is a bit difficult for me too understand all it is written here, so if i have understand :

- i can pulse air with a hammer valve (that delivers air when you push a bouton, that's it ?)

- now, i know how works a vortex http://www.burntlatke.com/bb.htm

but there is only a air supply that rotate bbs and propulse into barrel ?

what happened when you vary the pressure and/or rate of flow?

is there any shape better than others ? i can't find difference between inline or cap vortex

what hapened when barrel is blocked ?

- i 've not found how a cloud works

a cloud is a less efficient less powerful version of a vortex so it prolly should be avoided on this project. i would do a vortex that pulses the air imput in time with the barrels. also if the block was just stationary the time to get a bb into the barrel would be extremly short. so i would add a cone on the end so tha it funnels the bbs into the barrel. this would prolly give 5 or so shots per barrel

^Note: The "spud wiki", linked in the top right of SpudFiles as "Wiki", compiles a lot of information.

Can't find that cloud gatling BBMG, would be perfect for this. DR (BewareOfDog) posted it I believe, can't find it in the archive though.

I have never made a BBMG before, but could you have each barrel as a mini vortex BBMP, and the airsource can be from the same source. So like a CO2 canister split into like 6 vortex guns. I would imagine you would need like a 300psi source to shoot 6 barrel effectively?

I have a reasonable idea for the loading and air delivery system. Unfortunately, I am at the library without my CAD program, and with hypersensitive mouse, but I hope the diagram is understandable.

many thanks for your ideas

something takes form in my head, i take parts of every messages, i think i'm near a good solution

is a vortex must be round or it can be semi round ?

i'm sorry rames but i don't understand your sketch
what are the black and white dots in part the high left part ?

sorry, black would be some kind of nub to push a valve, and white would be looking down the barrel.

on the top left, the white circles and ovals would be a port to the barrel at a 90 degree angle for the bb or air to enter through.
