Well its been a long time since i have been on here again, but the need to shoot random stuff is back and this is the place to get ideas on how to do it So this is why i am here.
Me and a few friends got talking about having a paintball war, on snowmobiles, we were kinda inspired by the new call of duty. So we have 3 sleds, 2 people on each sled, 1 drives, and one shoots. But me being me, i had to throw in that the guns have to be home made knowing all my friends will put 2 pieces of pipe together with a ball valve and maybe if they get creative a breach loader. So i need to come up with a design that is semi auto. Trying to find something simple that isnt doing to take a long time to make.
First thing what kind of valve should be used? i was thinking use a sprinkler valve, or maybe a QEV?
second thing, loading mechanism. I was thinking of using some kind of simple sliding mechanism, only thing i am worried about is it breaking the paintball before it even leaves the barrel. If worse comes to worse i can just use a ball valve to feed them in, but i think it would be allot cooler to not have to do anything between shots.
Anyways, let me know if you got any ideas... btw, were going to have pretty much unlimited air (using some 12 volt pumps that will run off the sled battery)

trying to decide on a new project, probably something small.

Why not have a motorised ball valve alternating between paintball magazine and barrel/chamber, something like this?
Presumably you'll have an on board electrical supply so having a reasonably powerful motor to overcome the friction (cheap chordless drill etc.) shouldn't be a problem.
Alternatively, airsoft BBMG

or use an air cylinder to rotate the ball valvePresumably you'll have an on board electrical supply so having a reasonably powerful motor to overcome the friction
they won't be able to provide enough air for a semi auto... well probably they could but you'd have to use a couple of them and you'd also need a large tank so that they could run constantlywere going to have pretty much unlimited air (using some 12 volt pumps that will run off the sled battery)

Have you given it a go? If so, would love to see the prototypeHeimo wrote:Sorry JSR to burst your bubble but that concept don't work too well you can take my word for it. that design jams really fast

yea thats the first thing i thought when i saw that idea... the paintball wold get half in and then get squished... i also dont think it would be efficient enough for a portable gun that has to run off a relatively small tank.
After some talking and research today we are thinking maybe use a pneumatic cylinder to push the paintball out instead of blow it out. Then have a spring return for it with a pop off valve to release the pressure... adds an extra step and it wouldn't be real fast as firing but its a start... one good thing about it is we wouldn't need a very long barel which comes in handy when you are on a sled and want to shoot in all directions.
Il draw up a rough design later tonight

if your worried about drivers being distracted, go to a major highway and watch people drive in a group of people going 60 mph eating a sandwich, talking on their cell phone and watching their GPS at the same time...

you could try and make a gun like clide

all you need a qev and slide valve. if you don't want the make a blow forward make a tee mag

If you're spinning it at 10,000 rpm, then I suppose so, but since it's firing 2 balls per rotation (and it can only pick up one ball at a time, note the red stops) so at just 30 rpm you're firing a paintball per second.ohspyro89 wrote:That rotating design will destroy paintballs so quickly. I have a terrible feeling that when it was spinning it wouldn't always just pick up one paintball also.
That'd be good for solid ammunition, but paintballs would chop.

i'm on the same type of quest buddy, and the loading mechanism jsr proposes can work very well because the paintbal wont jam on a normal situation. they are rubbery on the outside, or shiny, it depends, but a little water to lubricate or some kitchen oil and they will never jam there
yea could work or mabey u could just use a gravity fed magizen with just a hamer valve or somethig, then again u could use a paintball hoper and paintball barrel and just chouse your own valve as long a the valve is a "semi auto valve" that doesn't let all the air out at once like a presher washer valve (tho these arnt very good at opening quikley)
nope I did not try it but someone ells I know has and according to him it kept jamming but I did not know too much about the internal workings of his gun (except that it worked with a ball valve that is rotating)jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Have you given it a go? I think you can make this design work but there would be some modification that needs doing like I think that the handle of the valve that would be connected to the motor should rather be geared up to a mechanism that control's the flow of projectiles to prevent it from jamming. what I am trying to say is that when ever the valve is in the position for a projectile to enter. the mechanism that it is geared to allows one projectile through cause if there is a lot of projectiles just sitting on top of the valve that is a recipe for a jamming mechanism

It's quite easy to mod a ball valve to accept only one round at a time.Heimo wrote:Sorry JSR to burst your bubble but that concept don't work too well you can take my word for it. that design jams really fast
