It's basically a vortex cannon though. I don't really see how this is going to be an effective form of riot control. If people are rioting 15m away, what is holding them back? Temporary fences don't work, so really it has to be police - meaning that your own forces are in the firing line.

The only way I can see this being useful is being used in a property with a chain link fence holding back "rioters". Any thoughts?

I must say, the design of the barrel is not typical of a vortex cannon (youtube). I was definitely expecting a more conical shape.

Could it really manage a Mach 6 vortex as popsci claims?

LPG+O2 mixture ignited under pressure like a hybrid?
DDT?
Do the insides have a special shape to guide the gases or the shockwave?
Is it a single combustion or is it a repeating row, like a pulse jet?

If I remember my gas dynamics correctly, the speed of a shock is related to the strength of the shock. As such, to claim that you have a Mach 6 shock is a direct declaration of the power of the weapon (for those who know how to read between the lines).

On the contrary, I see Israel as one of the bastions against "pussyfication". They fought hard to get their state and they're certainly not going to give it up so easily, since 1948 they've managed to hold back their militant neighbours with amazing tenacity (and a bit of healthy US backing).

Besides, they have nukes, will the West allow them to be overrun and let someone with an "I'm taking you swine with me" attitude push the button?

Anyway, this is getting rather political, vortex cannons, yes?

This seems more of an area denial/defence device in fixed mutually supporting positions, rather than something that would actually be mounted on a riot control vehicle.
