Nerf/Other small projectile launcher planning. *update 1*
so you would rather play without actually feeling ANYTHING??, and i dont think 6mm isnt going to do heaps of damage..
and its only a few of my mates who do that..., any way now that i think about it i think that may be breaking on the the rules on spudfiles...
THERE WILL BE NO MORE DISCUSSION ON WHAT I PLAN ON SHOOTING WITH THIS GUN.
i guess i can talk about what i shoot as long as im not shooting flaming projectiles....

Cpvc, and special brass barrels that i've heard of work the best. also, if you want a gun like a normal nerf gun (no barrel what-so-ever) use roseart markers
Lots of info here for this project: http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?s ... 480e80578a&
That website should help a ton.

so with a little help from littlebro05, i have updated my design a little bit.
now when you push the breach forward, it opens the ball valve (filling chamber) and when you close it it will close the ball valve. this should increase me reload speed

My rifle uses (ugh) a sprinkler valve, a ghastly amount of dead space, and a two foot barrel. 70+ PSI seems to do no damage to the dart, and I bet I could take it to 100. I still haven't tested it properly yet, but I'm gonna! Yessir, gonna do it.... Tonight. After I get done playing TF2. Maybe.
Completed projects:

chinnerz, i dont think that design would work well, maybe the breech attached to a string that reloads the chamber and opend the breech would be better. (spring loaded ball valve with a rubber band) like this

Looks like it will work as long at the lever can slide along the "pin" or whatever is attached to the breach
That is all.

yeah the lever is just a bolt or a screw or something to grab to pull back the breech, and thats what the string is attached to. the rubber band pulls back the ball valve to close

They both would work but his is sturdier and easier to use unless im looking at how yours works wrong
That is all.

@gun freak I don't think yours would open the breach far enough with the displacement on a standard ball valve handle,
I'm not sure if I like either design, on the diagram chinnerz has, it would be awkward to have a long enough lever and slot to open the breech all the way and not bump into the tank, and with the length that it would protrude and stiffness that it would cause. Besides you probably wouldn't even bother to open the ball valve all the way when you fill
But really why is the tank air supply attached to the chamber instead of the pilot? if you fill from the chamber the piston has to be spring loaded bleed enough between the chamber-pilot so that the piston remains set even when you open the ball valve really fast,
basically the QEV has to be less powerful and efficient if you fill from the chamber, not only that, what if you accidentally left the ball valve open when firing in a Nerf war?
what's wrong with a 3way pilot? not enough flow? well your building a Nerf gun, here's a thing on moding blowguns into 3-ways pilot valves so you can't say you don't have enough materials. Do you still want to fill from the chamber?

I don't recomend filling from the chamber... but thats the way he wanted it... so thats how I sketched it. I agree with you, he should fill from the pilot side, just for better qev performance. PS I don't like either design

ok, well, i am filling from the chamber because it was easy to do (or so i though), how would one fill from the pilot??
i can not get a QEV, and yes i have looked, and when buying them from the interwebs i will end up paying $80... i gave up on looking for qev's a while ago as there are good enough alternatives.
i also had a look at that page you linked me to,.... i dont get it :sad2: and i think i know why, what is a three way valve? a valve which opens 3 ways?? is that even possible?? hmm i think i need to spend a bit of time on the wiki....
but ill have to do that when get home, im on my trusty phone right now (and that is to assume the wiki doesn't die on me today)

a good point, but i was planning on spring loading my breach. which i think would solve that issue.iknowmy3tables wrote: what if you accidentally left the ball valve open when firing in a Nerf war?

you were probably looking at clide's mod, there should be diagrams before that, the mod I did fills when released and vents when squeezed.
btw you should understand this by now but the third "way" is just venting into the atmosphere
that setup is the concept behind most semi auto pneumatic valve systems
you can build a piston valve, but most piston valves also fill from the pilot, and you should have known that, so you should defiantly do more research
