HI Ya everyone Smile
Now im a total noob to the whole with the whole homemade airsoft/bb gun stuff so forgive any stupid questions Sad

But iv been looking through the forums for a basic semi auto gun that i can use in a skirmish with some mates.
Now im from Australia so buying one is out of the question and i have a pretty limited experience with making things but i really wana give it a crack.

I was looking through youtube and i managed to find one gun that i like the look of Dont mind his slow English and stuff hes actually really friendly and well natured :)

Just wondering if any of you have a pretty simple semi auto design that a fairly inexperienced person could make with out to much difficulty.
Thanks Polo

Have a look at this one

Doesn't get much simpler and efficient than that, and built by a fellow countryman too so materials should be easy to obtain.

I suggest a bit more research, most of your questions will be answered by using the search function or going through the wiki.

no one heres going to give you plans to make a gun, but we will link you to the info you need. The simplest way to get semi imo is using a quick exhaust valve piloted by a 3way valve, read this its about 3way valves and this its about quick exhaust valve(QEVS).

Also you might wanna read thought the Wiki

the vid you linked uses a hammer valve they are quite simple, but you need to re-cock every time you wanna shoot, gets annoying
this guys guns uses one, there's a drawing there to/

Also don't expect to get 100 round on a fill, if you get 10-20 per fill you will be lucky, that is if you are using 100ish psi.

were in aus are you? i'm from Melbourne

First of thanks for your quick reply's.

I have actually looked at Lozz's gun before and i like the simplicity but i not a fan of the look or the rate of fire. (No offense meant).

As for the bolt action i kinda like the idea of it it will mean that our skirmishes will not be over in 3 seconds and will reduce the need for constant reloading.

As for getting 10-20 shots off that's kinda what i was expecting. Also if its any help i have an uncle who is a refrigeration mechanic and so i can get parts pretty easy and i work in an archery store so i can use any shaft size i want as a barrel.

Iv had a quick look through the wiki but ill go over it in a bit more detail tomorrow and see if i can increase my knowledge.

Im from Adelaide btw :)
Thanks

id ask your uncle if he could get you a fridge compressore, and push them bbs with 300psi. all the galvanized pipe and fittings from bunnings can handle that pressure no probs.

the arrow shafts are good barrels but where will you get bbs from?, if you order them from eBay they get confiscated

I think the "look" should take second place for your first project, focus on making something that works - remember, pretty is as pretty does ;)

With a bit of imagination you can make it bolt action without too much difficulty.

It's a question of understand the basic principles, and adapting them to the tools and materials you have to hand. If you're on a budget, epoxy is your friend ;)

I was thinking of more like 350ps in a fire extinguisher chamber recon it could take that pressure?

BBs i thought where going to be the killer in this but i was lucky enough to have a mate who was in the usa lately and he bought home 10,000 of them home with him :)

if its a co2 fire extinguisher then yes dont, if its a dry chem on i wouldn't go passed 250. if you are going to fill it with air, then paint the inside with anti-rust, if your lucky and have a halon extinguisher then they are stainless steel and will happily take 600psi.

Ok so after some more research iv decided that making a QEV and 3 way semi auto gun will be a little hard for a beginner like me so im thinking i will copy Lozz's design.

Hears a little sketch i did on the bus.
Its a little crowded but u can still read everything.

Basically i plan on centering a Carbon Arrow shaft inside the 15mm tube to act as a smaller barrel for the bb's to travel through and then using washers and epoxy to hold it in place and finally a rubber washer to act as a Pressure regulator (Not sure if that is the right term).
Ill be doing the same for the magazine.
Ill be making a wood stock once i get everything working mechanically

Id really appreciate some feed back and suggestions as this is my first build

Thanks

I think one trigger pull on that would empty the tiny mag so you either need to use a needle valve to slow the air flow or make a way bigger magazine.

I would choose hammer valve.

Something like this, just add a mag

Sorry but what do you mean by needle valve? I just had a look through the wiki and a search and didnt find much :(

Im a big fan of the system he has working hear it is a little slow with the rate of fire but it would be a heap more efficient on air, Mind you with the size of his chamber i dont imagine running out of air will be a problem anytime soon ;)

Thats pretty epic but i think its a bit out of my depth technically.

I am very interested in the bolt action design pictured in the diagram posted by jackssmirkingrevenge but I do not understand how the system would allow you to pull on the bolt if it is sealed inside the barrel. If the bolt had part of it out side the barrel, then how would the barrel be able to hold pressure. Could someone please clarify?
