What do i do with this fridge compressor? + Funny story :S

Well, i have this fridge compressor that is in good condition that i pulled out of a working fridge today. I the main electrical cables out with it. When it was removed i plugged it in and nothing happened, so me and my mate decided that because not all the original output cables are connected that there was not a full circuit, so with a bit of fiddling we thought we had it. To our surprise when we turned it on there was a buzz from the extension cable and a unforgettable *POP* from my mates power-box. It seems we blew his shed's fuse and now it has no power D:

So instead of attaching it to the houses supply, i decided to be patient and make a post here, for you more compressor educated few to tell me what to do

So, WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

LOL I did the same when i got my one.

do you remember where you cut that capacitor off it will need to go back, then you have to find the two wires the went to the thermostat, ether put a switch there or just connect them permanently and use the power point to turn it on/off.

the one i had wired up had no capacitor, just the three pegs under the black plastic covering. I took the original power cable and just wired the three cables in the power line to those pegs with a soldering gun. Then i interrupted one of the three cable in the power cable with a switch,so i could turn it on and off without unplugging it.

That's wrong.


There are 3 pins:
1. common
2. run
3. start


if you have a multimeter you can tell which one is which

that's based on resistance alone


Basically speaking common has to be connected to the blue wire, run is brown and start is connected to the wire that leads from the starting relay.

This isn't always the case as some retards out there who weight stuff in grains, stones and god only knows what else (hey we're special :scratch: fu## yeah!)... for some reason they concluded it would be cool to mess up wiring color codes too

I've been "into" a good number of appliances over the years. One thing they ALL had in common was a wiring diagram glued to the inside.

Color of the wiring used by various manufacturers shouldn't be an issue if you READ the bloody diagram.

But what do I know...I measure stuff in grains. :thefinger:

lol it might, but it is not the way it should be done. Plus the guy doesn't know which pin is common, run and start (at least I can't see any letters there)

check the video - pins are not always oriented in the same way
(well at least the one presented there has a letter next to each pin)

The fact that you are all saying different things to do, or you are all saying the same thing in a different way hurts my brain

The original power cable has its 3 wires. 1 of then ran into that box that sticks onto the compressor plug. 1 of them ran into a little cylindrical shaped thing that sat in a little frame above the plug and the other is still attached to earth.

Could i forget about the junk that was hanging off it and hook the mains power straight to the 3 pin plug on the compressor and liquid nails [epoxy eat your heart out liquid nails fixes everything, alongside my ductape and Leatherman] a little switch into one of the wires? Maybe even cut a hole in the plug cover and screw it in.

Professionalism achieved through garbage.




Also, the entire system had a cooling fan which also ran out of the same electrical cables. I don't really give a damn about it so i'd rather not re attach it at all.

Also, i am presuming from the little knowledge i have that the 3 different pipes are designed like this:

Little one [used to run threw the cooling system] = Input
Big one [Went into the copper array inside the fridge] = Output
Blocked one = Original Co2 filling pipe?

The blocked one was for filling the freon. I think you got the others right.

the smaller pipe is usually high pressure side(output), that's where you would attach a gauge and filling hose. The big(input) you should put a air filter.
and yeah the blocked off one is where they filled it but with freon, not co2

also if you lost oil when you pulled it out you should get some more. normal compressor oil is fine.
