This was an idea i had floating around but why not hook up the 12volt compressor to a 12 volt battery, then to a small accumulator such as a fire extinguisher, then that to your Airsoft Gun.

Although you would need a switch (on the gun to turn the compressor on and off) and if noise is a problem then it ain't gonna work.

Something like this:

EDIT: I forgot the switch between the battery and the compressor.

A decent 12 volt compressor (the type actually fitted to cars, not those carried around in the trunk and never used) would work if you were willing to hump the battery around.

A regulated high pressure tank is a much more practical idea on many levels.

That entire setup, assuming your using a battery that can supply at least 30A @ 12V for any appreciable amount of time will weigh on the order of 30lbs if not more!

They are pretty noisy too - you mentioned that, but if your playing any sort of "scenario" style airsoft game you might as well shoot navigation flairs up in the air at the same time while its running lol as you'd be a dead give away.

Use teh CO2's and get an extra 20oz tank on a black friday sale! they go for like $20-$24 bucks, and only cost $5 to refill. IF you go through 2 20oz CO2's in a day your shooting way to much and not hitting your targets enough! That is unless your in professional tournament play, but at that point you'd probably be playing a real sport like paintball :P where you'd have free HPA refills for the day.

I had a design similar to the one jazzman posted, but it never got built because of the price. The price of just the compressor and batteries would have been too much for a project I was unsure would even work.

well, I don't know about you, but there are a lot of airsoft players out there that uses propane instead of co2 to fill their gas guns, because propane is cheaper.

But then again, the volume output of a conventional gas airsoft rifle is nothing compared to your flame thrower[/quote]

A propane airsoft gun is not the same as a CO2 airsoft gun.

no, I meant that some airsoft players has those guns that take "green gas", and they fill it with propane instead green gas because propane is way cheaper.

yeah but they don't dump tonnes of gas at a time, using propane for a bbmg will make the tank freeze up lowering pressure and probably coursing the gun to freeze too, making the pvc brittle

And remember, a bbmg requires a steady stream of gas to work, not little "pops" of pressure for shooting individual rounds. A steady stream of propane might just turn the thing into a real flamethrower if it finds a spark
