[for those who've been getting misconception about the topic, its about recreating the TV Movie's mouse-fart silencer sounds while maintaining the look of a silencer]
ever wonder how to replicate those TV show's silenced pistol that sounds like a mouse-fart? this is the plan, well not exactly a silencer... anyway this is only theoretical (for now, i need [s]guinea pigs[/s] volunteers to test this theory out) and will be, or rather, should be moved to the how-to section after confirmation if it works.
well the theory is that attaching this:
into the end barrel of the spud gun would create a mouse-fart instead of a boom, easy right?
wait, what? thats it? no no no, i'm just getting started.
since the whole whistle is occupying the end barrel and blocking the barrel itself, it wouldn't be a cannon anymore right? so lets do a diverting design!
simple as hell right? how the diversion happens is that when the projectile passes away from the diversion hole and while the projectile is blocking the main exit(aka the end of the barrel), some of the gas's pressure would go through the diversion hole.
wait, what? it looks stupid? yes it does! obviously it looks stupid. well then let me introduce the real deal.
first of lets introduce the "fipple"
this will be our core to the mouse-fart silencer... well kinda-silencer, because of this, the redirected airstream would create a high pitch whine upon going through the fipple.
**further explanation of the fipple and a how to make one, actually its a how to make a flute...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fipple
http://www.ggwhistles.com/howto/
and heres the complete design:
adjusting and tweaking the design will change the tune, no specific measurements to be provided because i'm not sure myself

I think it would only be comparable to a mouse fart if the mouse in question had just ingested 2.5mL T-Stoff and 7.5mL C-Stoff in quick succession, and had a fipple (I like the word fipple, and would like to use it more often in conversation) rammed up its rectum...

actually, the silencer works only when the projectile is blocking the barrel's exit, meaning, the gas is being force directed into the fipples.

are you drunk? because your replies makes it look like you are... no offense mate.
I'm not the one suggesting we should make spudguns whistle
If you want a genuine "mouse fart" round, something like thisis a much more practical proposal.
If whistles worked, they would have been military issue a while ago.

LOL, wait, those rounds seriously make mouse-fart noises? cool
but this is kinda a theory of replicating the silencer's mouse-fart sounds BUT not exactly silencing the thing

That's an odd design objective.EpicMadness wrote:but this is kinda a theory of replicating the silencer's mouse-fart sounds BUT not exactly silencing the thing
The "mouse fart" in general is largely a Hollywood myth, even the best silencers sound like a staple gun at best.

so what are you trying to say? its impossible to replicate or possible? i'm trying to find a way to replicate the mouse-fart sound... can't you get what i mean?
ok ok, now i seem to get what you're thinking... how about rephrasing it to recreating instead of replicating? more meaningful to you?

I have one of these:
It's the closest I've heard to the "mouse fart" sound from a projectile firing device.
It does so using asolenoid driven hammer valve that avoids spring twang, and avery efficient suppressor working on conventional principles.
I fail to see how doing anything other than trying to contain the propelling gasses is going to make any launcher sound quieter.

does the underlined quotes seem to be pointing to making it silent? i'm trying to make it scream man instead of a bang...
i fail to understand your point a little more...
hmm now that i think about this argument, i could freakingly prolong the escaping gas by regulating the output and attach this to a sword and name it "benihime" and start saying "scream benihime" *presses the trigger* -sword goes "pyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"-

-snip-
btw, how does "rerouting/redirecting the propelling gases to an alternate route where a fipple will use the rushing pressure? plus when did whistles start to contain pressures?EpicMadness wrote:LOL, wait, those rounds seriously make mouse-fart noises? cool

you must be drunk, well i'm aiming for a legit goal while you're making fun of it, well it works for me because you gave me another idea XD so long as we both enjoy this argument then i think its fine.
oh and, thats some cute hamster, sadly it has some effing poo.

^ YES thats the point, me want a sniper that goes "pew pew pew" or a pistol and make it look like an alien blaster XD well without me screaming the "pew pew pew" nor using any loud speakers.
btw, can i ask you guys something? what happens to the expanding gases after the projectile leaves the barrel? it goes to waste right? well what i'm trying to do here is redirect those and make me a screamer! weeeee~

Let's take a look at what you're trying to do.
You want to redirect a much smaller volume of air from the propellant gases to make a whistle noise by blasting it through what is essentially a fipple.
Let me ask another question... what type of launcher is this?
If it is a pneumatic, you already have a reduced volume of air at your disposal... the pilot volume.
So basically, take said fipple and attach it to the exhaust of your pilot valve, and then fabricate a conventional silencer for the muzzle noise.
That makes a bit of sense. Or it might not, but that's two (now three!) uses of the word fipple in a post, which is more than enough incentive to post the above.

its a combustion spud, thats why i'm attaching it on the end-barrel. advantage of putting the recreational kit to the end-barrel is that the projectile already has momentum and almost out of the barrel so any loss in pressure would hardly affect the projectle.
well if it was compressed air then it'll be as easy as you suggest.
