Yes, you can get next to free units from the corner market or Walmart. The idea is not to get involved in a race to the bottom. Really, do you guys have a feel for what it takes to machine a "nice" part? Not to mention paying the rent, buying materials, keeping sharp tools in the machines (expensive). Not to mention utilities, insurance etc.

No doubt that this is in a different league and for a niche market of a class of people who actually do appreciate fine engineering and materials that costs a bit more.

We are considering a Damascus version.

Should be much easier to machine too.

Aside from the material and prestige, I would be more comfortable parting with my money for something that can do more than just open bottles though.

Heck you can get a tacticool rail mounted bottle opener these days

Maybe some socket shaped holes to allow it to be used as a rudimentary spanner, a fold out saw, something along those lines.

If you're doing some in 6al4v then anodising would be a great idea... titanium has some of the nicest anodised colours.

Other finishes I'd suggest would be a satin, parkerized (or iron phosphate), blued, etched (ferric chloride on the steel one), blasted or hydrographically dipped.

Are the rewards correlating with actual prices or do you have a different scheme in mind?

Here's an idea..Not sure if you guys are keen on leatherwork but I'm sure sheaths/holsters would sell to the gun/knife guys. Plus then you could add another tool of some kind. Obviously not a knife like shown but you get the idea

Personally I'd veer away from blades in a product to quite potentially be used in a public environment or around alcohol... But the shard is pretty cool.

Fair point, but useful to point out that the Artifact blade is removable. Also normally if you're opening beer bottles and need your own opener, you're clearly not at someone's house but on a picnic/BBQ/camping trip, so there's already plenty of knives around

On the other hand if it's a keyring you have on you all the time maybe it's not advisable, I used to have a swiss knife on my keyring but stopped carrying it for this reason.

I personnaly know how to open a beer with pretty much anything from a sheet of paper, a lighter, a wood log, a table corner .... haha sometimes it's useful
Nevertheless, it's fair to say that the design of the opener in the first post is great!

As suggested in private I concure with MRR, surely there are features you can add to a 4" length of CNC machined steel that will make it useful beyond just opening bottles
