Home defence spudgun

Hello everyone. I'm Rambo(the crappy autocombustion guy). For a while I concentrated instead of exotic high tech spud guns, on ones with "real value". So far my home defence system consists of two knives, hatchet and two coke bottle spudguns. One is 30mm, 1m long barrel with a lighter sparker and the other is 30mm/1.2m, coke bottle again with two professional pyrotechnic ignitors(you can drop in the sea and it'll shoot). Bouth have safety, stored with projectile in the barrel and spare preloaded bottles and projectiles. My favorite mixture is H2/N2O 1:1. Even with messed up ratios or diluted with air it's very reliable. Here are some of my first guns with the concept:
N2O/H2:
Methanol/air/O2:

While I wouldn't really speak of spudguns in terms of "home defence" due to forum rules and in general, I'm reminded ofthis thread... but I have to say it's great to see you back on the forum, a few years ago you were very much on the cutting edge of combusion based spudgun development

shooting blunt iron projectile with H2/N2O +air+butane+chlorine and I don't know what else is in the mix, it's old and unreliable so I got rid of it :bom:

Welcome back!
I have to point out that discussing shooting at anything alive, humans for instance, is strictly forbidden on this forum.
So I take it that by home defence you mean: against hurricanes or the occasional zombie dropping by to say hello...
Please change the topic title..
Great to have you back!

Oh come on, tactical gun, riot gun, dominator gun, why not defence gun jrrdw, we can't see the bottle expanding cuz everything flashes. Bottles make very strange sound when they explode sometimes. In a sealed bottle the mixture ignites and makes strange almost funny sound, fraction of a second later the heat softens the plastic and it bangs.

Cool concepts back then, but poor performance. Now my concept is to make the most useful legal and fun guns for the smallest price. I try to make everything as innocent looking as possible. If cops ask I'm prepared with answers like illuminating device or at worst-signal gun :angel4:

What is your source and purity of the gasses you are using for your mixtures? And at what pressure are each of the source gasses?

I fill the bottles under water. For O2-H2O2 decomposition (I actually have a coke bottle with O2 under pressure), for H2-HCl/Zn or NaOH/Al, for N2O-ammonium nitrate. Moonbogg don't mix things up, there are different means for different situations. There are things that the baseball bat can't do and there are things that the spudgun can't do. For certain situations http://www.beesuitscheap.com/ this may be the best defence :boxing: You would have a point if I was talking about flamethrowers for example, but I have blunts, blades, bow :toothy10: , and relatively convenient spudguns. There is no reason (so far) to exclude any component of my home defence system. I wish I could afford this http://www.coldsteel.com/gunstockwarclub.html

I do remember your coke bottle guns
Not really sure what type of laws you're dealing with here, but I'd tend to want something semi-auto with tons of stopping power. Sure, what you have has a good chance of being lethal, but in the US(and I'm trying to stay within the rules as much as can and still get the point across here), if I have to shoot some one, I do not want them injured, I want them dead. If you injure someone in a self-defense situation, you should expect all kinds of hell courtesy of lawyers and the US justice system. Plus thousands of dollars in legal/possibly medical fees.
Another good reason is, using a spudgun to shoot someone would probably give it an instant firearm classification, which will let the cops do all kinds of law-bending against you.
That war club looks cool, though. You could probably just pick up an oak board at the lumberyard and jigsaw/ carve you own. It probably wouldn't take more than $10 and a couple days time.
Oh, and another one I just thought of, shooting someone with a spudgun could possibly come back to haunt the rest of us in the form of tougher laws restricting the type of stuff we build.

I think the self defense discussion is moot, let's focus on the innovative combustion mixes

The most powerful I've come up with so far is N2O/methanol. It has very good initial density-more then 2g/L and low end density with N2, H2O and CO molecules. Anymore powerful with propane/acetylene would require metal chamber. I've magaged to crack a very thick walled polypropylene pipe with volume of the mixture only like 200ml.
