Knife Thread

Thought I'd kick this up and mention that I got a nice new Pekka Tuominen knife blade along with a few by Yuro Puronvarsi and some nice alder root, curly birch, linseed oil, brass stock and some other stuff. Gonna make my own handles

Why not your own blades as well?

Pekka and Yrjö both make very nice blades, was they very expencive?

Haven't read the entire thread yet,
But I am a full-time cutlery maker myself.
It's my "second job" besides my other self-employment (since the "economy" is so messed up).

I have a push-dagger I am basically mass-producing (it'd probably be illegal a lot of places , for the double edge)...It's made of 1095 grade steel.
I also have a short-sword design, that will be next, a cool knife based off it's tip, and a long-sword with different dimensions (for weight).
5160 grade is my favorite for those (it's a modern spring steel).

Sometime I'll post pics or a link ,OR once I have my own site to advertise on.

Why not your own blades as well?

I don't have a place to put an anvil or forge
@ jake, The yrjo blades I got a great deal on; 3 for 80 bucks and the pekka tuominen blade was free

You could always offer the push dagger with only a single edge sharpened, with large bevels it would be just as effetive

What steel did you use?

This is the same one as I posted a few months ago. Still not sure on the steel, but it is solid. Took me probably a weeks worth of time to grind it to that shape. I have been working on it for 6 months now on and off...

hmm, usually even the mildest-steel is solid

I believe you have used just basic scrap steel, i could sell you a piece of higher quality steel, PM me if you are interested

Nah, my mom would kill me if I got a bigger knife... This one is going to be used as a prop right now, its dull enough to where I can squeeze my hand around it and pull it and it won't even leave a mark. (that's also what she said hahaha.) After the show though its going to be sharpened.

seems like a very sturdy shieth that won't get cut up fast.
