I was just thinking about putting red lasers in it's eyes and flamethrowers on the arms, but this certainly seems a lot more attractive than the organical thingjsr wrote:Good lord! an infant that I might actually *want* to nurture!!!!

Indeed! I put the suggestion forward to the good lady but was met with the following rebuttal:Labtecpower wrote:I was just thinking about putting red lasers in it's eyes and flamethrowers on the arms, but this certainly seems a lot more attractive than the organical thing
That last objection is utterly ridiculous - think of the AWESOME robot you could have for the cost of raising one human child!!!!the aspiring Mrs JSR wrote:no, dear

JSR, you sure bring joy to a depressing and rainy workday
Edit: tell me, what shall i do to day:
a) start fitting fourth screen to the beast
b) start making better exhaust system for my Suzuki
d) all of those plus make few blades for JSR

Have you tried using your scientific expertise by pointing out that children are merely a byproduct of a function or process?

Do I look suicidalvelocity3x wrote:Have you tried using your scientific expertise by pointing out that children are merely a byproduct of a function or process?
I once patiently tried to explain that emotions are nothing but the products of chemical imbalances in the brain, clearly proven by the fact that they can be artificially altered by the administration of drugs or other physical changes to the body, and as such concepts like love are fundamentally meaningless.
That did not win me a lot of points I can tell you

More so in today's society but from a few million years BP to several millennia ago, it would have been a fairly important process regarding kinship and the like; possibly even an adaptive process.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:such concepts like love are fundamentally meaningless

That doesn't invalidate my contention though.MrCrowley wrote:More so in today's society but from a few million years BP to several millennia ago, it would have been a fairly important process regarding kinship and the like; possibly even an adaptive process.
Anything that has survived or been honed by millions of years of evolution clearly works, and must be beneficial in terms of the propagation of a species within the context of its environment, no doubt about that - but it doesn't mean it's not fundamentally meaningless.
It goes for everything in life, anything is only as important as the number of people who give a toss about it. Meaning is something we ascribe whether as individuals or as a society, and it therefore has no relevance beyond the realm of human consciousness, which in itself depends entirely on the organic functioning of our primate brains.
I recently bought this
