homemade compression fitting

you put it onto the tube and tighten... rubber washer gets squeezed and holds it in place as well as seals perfectly

cut the copper tube off at the shell and weld a fitting onto the shell around the copper.

duh guess you've never seen inside of a fridge compressor... that doesn't make any sense at all

compression fitting is the best option - if you have to you can remove it easily

well you had to braze the copper tube into the fitting otherwise it won't work as the shell is exposed to the inlet

no it was already brazed, I only welded it because the copper tube snapped off at the shell

ohh around the copper tube stickign OUT of the shell... sorry I understood you suggested drilling a hole and welding a nipple there, which obviously wouldn't work

all i can say is looking good. how ever if you braze any of the joints make sure to cap all of em. and be on the lookout for any units that use the refrigerant 410-a. those compressors will put out an extra 400-600 psi.
