I've only come accros one person who powdered their alluminum using a 'sander-type' anangement.
They used 50 grit, IIRC, and where getting a few hundred mesh.

NONONO I don't mean using it in the same configuration as a ball mill. Just using the cylinder spinning slowly to mix and create a more homogeneous mixture.
oh ok. what is your component mixture? ratios and chemicals
in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

Well the coffee grinder was kind of a success. I was able to get around a few table spoons of Al powder, however just today I over heated it and now that wonderful blue smoke came out, you know the stuff that usually means it doesn't work anymore. All I was able to do with the little bit I made was make a small amount of thermite. My friend has a nice 1700 RPM motor that hes going to use to make like a 35 pound ball mill so soon I will be able to make my powder.
As for chemicals and ratios, I was planning on playing around with ammonium nitrate, Al powder and some kind of a binder in different ratios. I don't mean "playing around" as a literal term by the way. Ive heard that Mg is usually used with ammonium nitrate but Al should still work ok.

why did you heat your aluminum? if you want some really pure Fe2o3 try the trick with teh 4 9 volts salt water solution, and iorn nails. use the nail with the least bubbles coming off of it, and that will oxidize the iron. and you have rust

I didn't mean that I put the powder in the ball mill, my freind hasn't made it yet I just meant that that was all I was able to make out of the coffee grinder.

Never mix oxadizers and fuels in a ball mill?
That means making a quality black powder is a real bitch. Al powder will ruin a cofee grinder rather quickly.
(Also, dont do something stupid like try and make flashpowder... espetialy in a ball mill..)

thats what i was talking about. i just said that as a ground rule, because thats what i assumed he was making with the aluminum. i stand corrected.
