I'll be in the US during winter break, if anyone wants to meet up I'll be around Boston or New York.

My sympathies go to you first and foremost, sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Secondly, I know we have a few photo-hobbyists here, does this look like a good beginner's kit? I plan on mostly using the prime lens, the telephoto is just a backup/for rare occasions.

Looks fine, though I'd suggest a wide angle prime for landscape shots?

I'm trying to limit my cost at the moment, do you think a wide angle is really that critical? I mostly want to focus on subjects and not landscapes, is it a good idea to just wait to buy that?

Thanks for the (fast) input!

This is the second "amazon order screenshot" trope I've posted on this same page, but they are quite far apart chronologically. :P

I'm getting back into my electronics hobby. I don't have any of my old supplies/tools, so this order is a little expensive/extensive, but should be capable of some projects I've had in mind for a couple of years now.

Blurred out prices, but I'll put the price in the ballpark of "doable with a tax return", lol.

Sounds interesting.

I've sort of forgotten many electronics projects over the years. The last thing I really did was pretty basic - just a slightly spiced up 555/4017 chase LED circuit for a wargaming project. The only real challenge was getting it all to fit:

I think the overall project* is a subconscious attempt to get myself certified insane though, so that might count for something.

* A 1/32 scale scratch-build of a 400-tonne mech (for those of you who know Warhammer 40,000, specifically a Mars-pattern Warhound Titan), including interior, lighting, sound and articulated joints. Mostly a display project, although it might occasionally get used in games.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Nice, I have a few 555 projects planned as well, but mainly plan on playing with Arduino for a while.

Well, I finally caved in and made a modest investment in test equipment:
