When i just looked at my place, and my nabior just built a indoor rideing ridng summer of 2005 and it's there, so rite around middle summer 05 it has been updated. The thing that got me was, it pin pointed my address 1 eighth mile from my house, it put me liveing in a corn field, so it's aim is off a little.

I don't think the database would be updated all at one time, and urban areas are probably updated more frequently than rural areas.
That said:
1) Most trees that'll show up on an aerial photo are several years old, at least.
2) I'm envious of you peoples who live in places with photo resolution better than 1 pixel/20 meters.
...anyways, using a string tied to the projectile is a bad idea; it'll increase the drag on the projectile a very large amount, thereby changing the distance it'll go. Kindof defeats the purpose of measuring said distance, if you ask me...

at my house, I can zoom in until I can see the aluminum slats on the fence around our pool. and, the fields are surrounded by old oaks, like, 6 feet in diameter. oh yeah, they offer free downloadable update from time to time. oh yeah, the pics of my house are taken in the fall. the clarity is amazing!

in Auckland, New Zealand the pixels are awesome, like some of the best best cities google earth have made, just doesnt have 3-D buildings yet and its taken in Summer!
And BLB is right, i was playing cricket and the seam(string) of the ball came undone and there was 20cm of string hanging of the ball and when i bowled the ball slowed down crap loads (from about 100km to 85km)and was swinging all over the place.
