Well, I've been perusing the forums under the cloak of darkness and have decided it's time to contribute. This is my story..
My homepage is MSN. About two weeks ago they had featured an article from the Popular Mechanics website about spud gun plans. Until then, I had heard of, but never realized the power associated with them. The plan seemed so simple I just had to try. I built my first gun that very same day and was proud to say the least, that it worked so well.
As I said, it's been about two weeks and I'm hooked! I have made four guns, and I am constantly thinking of new and better methods to my madness. I'm also looking forward to sharing anything new that I dream up with the group. I thank you for this forum and all of the information it provides. -Lp

Welcome to the forums. I see you have experimented with the configuration, nice going!
If you like combustion for it's power, wait untill you discover pneumatics!!
have fun and be safe

I concur, very nice guns. I havent posted any pics yet but I've built two combustion and one pneumatic. I belive you will soon be tempted to try pneumatics. I knew nothing of them untill I found this website, I've been hooked ever since. Viva-La-Pneumatics and Spudfiles.
Edit:I was typing when BTB posted, I guess we both want you to know about pneumatics(although he's way more experinced than I am). Listen to him, not me I'm still a noob.

I'm a noob when it comes to combustion though.
It's illegal in my country, so why would I try it??
Pneumatics are better in a lot of ways, except portability.

Well, how is combustion illegal when pneumatic is fine?Brian the brain wrote:I'm a noob when it comes to combustion though.

Plenty of things are illegal here in the US, but that don't stop me.
Yes I have to agree with that. As long as your pneumatic design is fairly simple(single shot) there's absolutley no misfires. Though on my last combustion I made a stun-gun ignition and it is very very very reliable. I belive the only combustions I'll ever build again are the ones I sell to people.

I haven't been able to shoot the 'monster' yet. It is a 7 foot x 2" s40 PVC barrel with a 22 inch x 6" s40 PVC chamber. Let me tell you, six inch parts can get expensive. I'm unsure of the potential range and to be real honest, it's kind of scary to think about. I'll post video links when they become available.
Here's a link to a video I took a few days ago with Small Fry - paper load
And this one I took tonight with Sniper - wooden dowel wraped in duct tape load; note the 'Y' just to the left of the target on the backstop. Camera angle 45 degrees.
BTW - I use White Rain regular hold hairspray and achieve amazing results.

You have be your friend in order to watch the videos.
But that's besides the point. Real nice guns you have there. You should try propane for a cleaner, more effective fuel though.

I do apologize. Everything is in order now. BTB - Thanks for the kind words.Bluetooth wrote:The link says it's a private video.
My next gun will be propane powered. I'm already working on it. I filled the chamber of Small Fry with propane manually (like you would hairspray) and it worked great! -Lp
NIIICE!
You did a very good job there. I love your pictures. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to use the picture of your gun lit up in a new section of my website that includes some incredible spudgun pictures.
Where did you lear to mount the sparker like that in your huge gun? I thought it was a well-kept secret used only by myself and a couple others. Hah!
