Apparently they were using a bore mounted laser to sight in the rifle. When a live round was fired, the laser was still in the bore. -Lp

What idiot did that!?! He “forgot” well what if he “forgot” that the gun was loaded and accidentally pointed the gun at someone and pulled the trigger. More people are killed each year by guns that people “forgot” they were loaded, then by loaded guns.
But I can’t talk much, I stuck a .22call pellet down the barrel of my .22lr Henry, naturally it got stuck and took nigh on an hour to clear it…

 Wow........thats amazing. Goes to show the power solid propellents can produce.......I wonder how much pressure was in the barrel when it blew????
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

I don't beleive it could have happened. It is harder to blow a barrel up than you think. That bannana peeling looks oddly fake. If the mythbusters did everything they could try to bust a barrel like that(including welding the barrel shut) and only got a slight bulge in the barrel then there is no way they could get this extreme of an effect.

Yea, it's fake. The sighter would have just blown out and caused damage to the barrel. But not THAT much damage..

On second thoughts, I agree it looks fake......Wouldn't the laser be a bit more damaged????

Poor .308. Why someone would do this I dont know. Plus if it did do this it would be one tear along the rifleing in the barrel. Those bore sighters fit in the barrel loose enough that it would not be able to hold the extreme pressure that is needed to do that. And it looks like it is cut.

Thats a good point, the one about it tearing in the thinest part: the rifling.
