It appears I was mistaken about a few things,
One, the Giradoni shot a .31, not a .52, cal lead ball.
Two, it’s only 700-900 PSI.
You’ll have to forgive on that as haven’t bean feeling good lately.
Here’s a link to a web page that has more information, including a picture of the pump, on the Giradoni that Lewis and Clark used. Also on that same page there’s a link for more information on the workings of the gun.
The link: VMI Museum

Not true - I bought the rights to the invention back in 1997 when your patent ran out.
Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

Well you may have invented the invention, but I invented the human brain, so I own EVERYTHING that anyone has ever thought. So by thinking about that patent you have given me the rights. MUHAHA!
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Now realy stop fight dont post unless you have something releavent to say and Bruce Lee is way better then Chuck. Bruce could beat Jet Lee and Jet Lee could beat or come close to beating Chuck so stop fighting.

The dependence for this thread to remain unlocked, is invested in how well this thread can cater to the original subject matter. As it is, this thread is going downhill, and... nowhere. While there may be beneficial information gained at intelligent discussion of when the potato gun may have originated, I leave this thread open in hopes it will correct itself, via this post.
Just a note, if you ever find a discussion on SpudFiles that mentions Jet Lee, Chuck Norris, Al Gore, a muskrat, or a smurf the thread probably is not offering anything beneficial to the hobby of spudding. [Might be best to ignore it.]

Back to the real topic...
The first potato gun? In theory, the first gun could have been a result of a practical joke back in the days when the first automobiles were being made. In other words, tailpipe+potato=impressive reaction. Same concept right?
(assuming they put tailpipes on cars back then)

Why is it on this site that when somebody ask a question and nobody know the answer they make up some stupid and/or retarded fact to answer the question?
Modds, would it be possible to delete the useless post’s and the useful ones be edited of there useless content? I think I’m going to delete my useless posts and edit the useless content out of my otherwise useful posts.

Sorry, wasn’t talking about you, I was talking about Sjog, Paaiyan, A-98, me, B the B, TalonXxX, Joannaardway, Insomniac, and… did I mention me? Why is it we have such a hard time keeping on subject here?

Hey, I only made one silly post - compared to what others did, that's nothing. I made good contributions earlier on in the topic - and I am still trying to find that name.

Lol I only made one useless post aswell.
There is really no way of telling exactly who made the first potato gun, because I doubt whoever made it would have documented the process of making it, he or she was probably just mucking around and stumbled across the idea of putting lighter fluid and a tennis ball in a tube.

No, but we can try to trace the modern spudgun back as far as we can. It would be interesting to know.
As I said, there are historical examples of what could be seen as spudguns, but references to these are infuriatingly sparse.
