Ya,hair spray also gums up my clean out threads so I've been looking for altrnate fuel and right gaurd seems to be the most simple and effective.

I try to stick with propane or butane. Cheap and fairly easy to use. You can get the fuel to air mixture to perfection. I have found that using any aerosal like that always leaves an annoying residue in the chamber requiring occasional cleans.

man dont use AVGAS, it will melt the chemical weld of pvc pipe to fitting (unless u got an aluminum cannon)

starting fluid is the way to go if you still spray in your chamber. Most people dont know you need LESS THAN ONE SECOND of spray to get an equal or better shot from 5 seconds of hairspray.

ditch the aqua net man, its gonna gum up your chamber and build up on the electrodes, causing misfires.

For the advanced spud gunner id say use propane FIRST! getting the right size meter pipe is essential and if you compare costs a disposable propane tank costs THE SAME as hairspray, it shoots farther, burns cleaner and lasts longer than a can of hairspray

mapp gas is probably the best because it burns at a much higher temperature than propane, however you wont get that much higher of a shot unless you have your meter pipe set to dump a 4% gas to 96% o2 mix in the boom chamber

Yeah, the AVGAS does eat away the pipe cement. But it worked well while it lasted :?. Should have thought of that before hand. I found that out when my barrel landed about 4' in front of me. Oh well. It took too much damn time/effort anyway. :x

gasoline has ketones in it, same stuff in PVC primer.

Gasoline and other flammable fuels combust from the vapors not the liquid, thats why all new cars are fuel injected. A very misty spray is optimum for spray bottles if you are using alcohol for fuel.

I'm new at this so i use AXE, i read hairspray is useless, and all the other popular propellents are to advanced for me.

All i have right now is the mini(palm sized) version and a basic BL. I was really suprised how effective AXE is, i use 1 quick spray in my mini and it will send a 6mm airsoft bb flying. I use a BBQ igniter with a paper clip and my finger(ouch) for ground, it lights everytime!

I hope to use more advanced fuels soon.

I use propane or mapp. The gas is metered and injected. It's the most reliable fuel I have used. I haven't messed around with anything more powerful. If I woulden't let my 10yr old pull the trigger on it, I don't use it.
From what I have read, it seems propane is the standard. How come its not on the list?

Reaper oxygen+acetylene+PCV=DEATH, acetylene is one of the most dangerous gases out there if you use it in a potato cannon it will explode and the shrapnel will tear you into a mangled mess.
Many examples of this are present
