Never heard of a "cheekorke" :) .But yes I was considering a cherokee. The land around me is all flats but a jeep would serve me better since it has a smaller motor and I don't need to haul stuff, just a boat or garden trailer.

So here is another Q for everyone else.Lets say I don't get Jeep, what would be an equally good vehicle(small SUV type)?

Subaru Outback. Interior room is about the same as a cherokee, you can definitely still offroad, and definitely still tow stuff, gets about 21-25mpg, and lasts forever, great resale value, unlike domestics.

Yes, I've seen the subarus around but really, I think they are ugly.I also take into consideration looks not just performance.
I also have a boat so I need something that can tow.Cars aren't the best for that. And I'm not a speed demon, so going fast means little.I like to mud if anything.
Drive an outback. Then get back to me.

Personally I find most trucks ugly, as the people who buy them generally don't need them (like yourself, no offense) and are generally just driving them for BS macho reasons (think penile inadequacy).

PS: Sorry for double posting. I forgot! :)

I really think you should try one before you knock it. It's safer, handles better, and does exactly what you need it to do, all while consuming less gas, having a higher resale value, better reliability, and it's a lot more fun to drive.

The resale is my problem.I only have $3000 and the suburu outbacks I saw were all $7500 or more.Plus they look like a station wagon. :?

Look for a 96-98 Outback. My friend bought his 97 Outback for $3400, with around 160k, but it was very nicely maintained. New shocks, exhaust, all service done, timing belt, etc. Like I said, he's at around 300k now, without any major problems. Subarus last VERY long, and hold their value really well. JUST AVOID GOING TO DEALERSHIPS. They mark them up for some reason.

My current Subaru has 192,000 and runs great, burns no oil, and can still do 140mph.

Why?

It's slower. It uses more gas. It handles worse. It brakes worse. It's less safe. It's roof is weaker. It's taller. It's harder to park. It's not as fun to drive.

Screw SUVs. Give me a fast wagon with AWD anyday of the week.

jrrdw, paying for the gas is what is keeping me from the spudguns :D I want to trade my truck straight out for another more fuel efficient truck/small SUV

Cash, where do you live?In SC the Outback I saw was a 98 and had 180k miles. It was still $7500 I was amazed it was that much for a car.
Know anything about other import SUV's?

In response to Cash's earlier post(the one with the picture).I did actually need the truck when I bought it.I live on a farm. But soon I'm heading off to Kenya and later college so I have no need for a truck anymore.Hence the wanting a new car that can handle my trips back home. And is till good looking. If it were up to me I'd bring my folks Delica back from Kenya. That is a vehicle.

And your picture:I drive my mom's neon like that.Give me a break.Go to Africa and see where they bring the 2" ground clearance, busted out suspension Toyo's.You'll wet yourself if you think that subaru is doing something special.

Dude, subaru's are ugly, liberal-mobiles. (Unless they are tuned :D ) Their performance, as far as acceleration and top speed goes, is not above what your average shmo car could do. Their handling, yeah, better, but you won't need it. My dad's truck accelerates faster than many cars I have been in, so what. It rides nicer than most japanese cars i've been in, is quieter inside, and doesn't feel like I have a blanket insulating me from the road noise. (Ram 1500 with hemi) Oh yeah, and the engine doesn't sound like some bees buzzing around in a bottle. Japanese cars may last longer, but they sure seem cheap when you get inside. The jeep, though, probably won't get any better gas mileage than your truck i'm afraid. The jeep liberty averages only about 12mpg! And that's smaller than the cherokee. :(. Jeeps have a reputation of having relatively low gas mileage. I say, get a diesel truck. Diesel costs the same or less than normal gas, and diesel trucks get about 30mpg. :D Plus, diesel engines are very reliable.

I admit it, I am a sucker for trucks, but if you get in a crash with a car in one, guess who's going to live? Plus, subaru's tow nowhere near the same amount your average truck can. And, those econo Rav4's are so cramped, I used to carpool in one, and they suck. Never get one. So tini, it was useless.

This has been my rant.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my dad's truck handles pretty well also, very carlike handling.
