Re: Xtreme-patator

wow is supersonic!! :o I imagine some of your creations also exceed the speed of sound ;) even though your projects focus mostly on function and not maximum performance. It is possible although I don't really know. I have shot 6mm bb of 0.23gr plastic, with my hybrid gun at 7X, and I think it is mo...

Re: Rate my cannon

Nice cannon. You're taking a significant risk by using PVC with that much pressure inside. It can fail within it's rated pressure for no apparent reason because it's plastic and it tends to be fragile. It won't just crack, split or tear, but it will fragment and explode in your face. Wear safety gog...

Re: The Offcial Machinist Thread: Revised 01/04/2014

Busy with life so not much in the way of spudding but I did indulge in a bit of lathe time for something a little more artistic for... reasons. Now that I no longer have a laboratory to appropriate concentrated acids from, I tried my hand at salt water etching and while it's not as deep as what I wa...

Re: Designing a inline piston pressure regulator - Fluid statics math model

This little pressure regulator, I made it. As the areas on the two faces of the piston, (6.3 mm) are equal, the high pressure compressed air, (arrow in dark blue), that enters produces the same force in both directions, and the piston is balanced, without any math. The displacement of the piston is ...

Re: Designing a inline piston pressure regulator - Fluid statics math model

I just finished making the v3 based on hectmarr's design. This is the final arrangement: Regulator nacrt-Model01-00.png The body is 2011 Aluminum, just so it would be easier to machine. Both ports are threaded for G1/8 RegV3AlCuBiPb.jpg Piston is 5,8mm steel rod with 3x1,5mm (6mm OD) O rings RegV3As...

A bit of Nerf fun

Using a magazine and adapter from one of my Nerf guns I have made a bolt action magazine fed launcher, just needs painting and trigger guard making, 150psi gives over 300fps with half length darts.

More Nerf Rival fun

Running at upto 600fps @150psi, stainless steel barrel and chamber, 1/2" pilot air valve triggered by miniature 3/2 button valve, all hand made except the scope, PVC pipe for muzzle break. 7 shot gravity fed magazine tube, single shot bolt action.

Hybrid pumped weapon project

This is a project called "Armadas 1500 II". It is a weapon that works with an integrated air pump, it is a single shot, hybrid that precompresses at 8X - 10X. The firing barrel is with 12 microgrooves, caliber .25 and fires common pellets. The inverted bolt is made of 1045 steel, the combustion cham...

Re: Hybrid pumped weapon project

Speaking of this weapon, this is version "2". The number "1", it is valveless... it does not have any valve. I am trying to seal the chamber directly with the pellet in the barrel. The pellet is "prepared", it has a bit of spelling corrector to increase the seal, (it's perfect), and increase the fri...

Re: Great video testing spud gun failure/safety (ThebackyardScientist)

I remember proposing this sort of test a long time ago :D That was very fun to watch, I'm amazed by how much pressure it took to actually burst a lot of the PVC, although that of course is no endorsement to exceed the working pressures recommended by the manufacturers. It also makes the point that e...

I will either leave to my kids or force the kids to bury me with the cannons, not sure which yet.
The latter would be an interesting discovery for future archeologists :D in the former case they could be used to distribute your ashes 🤔

Re: 3D printed internal valve trial

I'm only going to be dealing with about 40psi max.. which puts me around 280lbs of pressure on this. At this point I'm still testing concept, and it could likely be made from aluminum if need be. With the piston itself being 3D printed, it has very low mass and hopefully will not create too much imp...

Perhaps saturating it with epoxy would be a good idea, or printing a hollow shape that would accept an epoxy pour.
*buys 3d printer*
*uses it to make epoxy molds*
Typical. ;)
