hows that?

oh and with that link i sent of the 30mw green laser modul all i would have to do it hook it up to 3v battery and its good to go? i think i might go with that if i can get it in the country, and then ill just find a nice small 3v torch that i can modify, so dose anyone know if the 1mw restrictions apply to laser modules?

Noooo. Hooking straight up to a battery will kill your diode after not long man.
Batteries put out current spikes and they will blow the diode. You need to make up a small constant current supply aka a driver. Like I said earlier, do a search on ddl drivers. They consist of an LM317, a couple of resistors, a pot, and a capacitor. Super easy to make, and you can adjust your current for different power output.. You will need a multimeter and a decent soldering iron.

EDIT:
Looked at the link again and you are correct. My bad. Yeah that module has a driver tacked on there already so it should be good to go.
I bought a 5mW module of ebay and it got through to aus fine.. Dont know about a 30, but I dont think they would look at the ratings.. They would probably just be looking for fully made lasers and such

ha ha ha you got me a little worried there i thought i would have all this extra stuff i had to do, i think i might just buy that one because it has it all there and would hopefully have less go wrong than if it was improperly made by a noob, and thanks for the help maybe ill see if they can put something like light module on it or something like that

Just FYI, it's not the sticker that matters with Aus customs and lasers... From what I've heard, they actually TEST each individual laser pointer they intercept, and if it comes out above 1mw then it is confiscated and a warning letter sent to you. So even some cheap pointers that claim to be under 1mw may get you in trouble, if it turns out they are outputting more than they're supposed to.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

hmmm so would this be classed as a laser pointer tho? i have read that the law only covers hand held pointers and not diodes and such but as of yet i have failed to find a official site satiating the exact laws on such items

Yeah but this is a laser module.. So I doubt they would test it. I bought a 5mW red module and it got through no trouble..
I can understand they would do this with like pen laser and stuff where all they have to do is press a button.. But these arent really a complete laser[/quote]

how visibly was your 5mw red laser at daytime/night/inside daytime light?

also dose anyone know what class a 30mw green laser is? would i get the performance i require from a lesser mw laser? i at least would like to be able to see it in daytime outside (not necessarily really bright days) because i dont want to do my shooting after dark wich i had to do if i wanted to use my cheep crabby red laser wich even then didnt work that well

I actually never used the 5mW one.. I stripped the diode out of the module for the lense and put a DVD diode in it..
Hmm I dont know how visible it will be in daylight.. My red was very visible.. BUT it was like probably running at about 150mW..
Also I dont know if green is the sort of color you would want to run.. Theres alot of green in the world and you could lose your dot pretty easy

yea i know its not he best colour for seeing the dot but i dont just want it for a site i also want it for the fact that with a green you can sometimes see the beam if its strong enough and think it would be cooler then just the plan old red, maybe if i get a blue one it might be a little more visible and will still have that cool factor, also did you lean much about wattages and there safety when you were making lasers? because i think i might get one that isnt to unsafe so IF something dose happen and it DOSE go in someone or somethings eye it dosent permanently damage it

I generally went with "anything above 50mW, wear goggles"..
In saying that I never wore goggles

hahaha yea i think i might play it safe and go under 50mw, oh an i found this
http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resou ... inters.pdf
it states that laser POINTERS over 1mw arent allowed in it has nothing saying that laser modules, diodes and alike have a limit :o

EDIT: its a tossup between there two, just to be certain the 50mw one is ready to hook up to power right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/532nm-30mW-12x60mm- ... 2625wt_907

EDIT: again lol, after reading some threads and even creating my own on that laser forum previously posted it iv found out that you can buy a laser diode or module of ANY power and get it through customs just fine, the ban dose only apply to any handheld potable pointer so its all good  will be buying the green 30mw one as soon as i can get my mums ebay password

Yeah, I realise they don't test diodes or modules... just pointing out that even <1mw pointers arn't even guaranteed to get through. Basically I'd buy all pointers from actual stores, so customs can't get to them... diodes and modules are all fair game though. And if you're using powerful lasers, please at least buy some laser goggles...

You could easily rip a laser out of a level. I ripped a 5mw red laser out of a crappy $5 one from the reject shop :D
