High power Qtip gun.

When I say high power, I mean it. I put one through my sheet rock and had to tell my parents I put a tack in the wall to hang a poster instead of tape. And my trigger failed for it and my brother walked past the barrel just as it failed, and it shot him in the back... No pictures, I can't afford to lose over $300 worth of parts in my room.
On to what I need to know, is there any way to tone this down without losing too much power? I still need to be able to shoot this, just with out my parents thinking its super powerful and I need to get rid of all my pneumatics/combustions/hybrids. So, any suggestions? I have thought about limiting flow, but at the same time I want to use this as an airsoft rifle, but dip the ends of q tips in wax to give them weight to fly further.

Hammer valve, with a .24 ID 3 foot barrel. Its charged to 90 psi and a 2-6 psi drop in pressure every time I fire, so it lasts a long time. I get about 100 shots from full to empty.

Well, to make it look alot less powerful when its shooting. I suppose what I need to do is make it sound more like a blowgun (a lung powered blow gun) rather than a bang, and make the aesthetics look like a toy gun. I sense a trip to the dollar store soon...

That would make it more powerful.pneumaticcannons wrote:could you lower the strength of the spring on the hammer valve?
Warhead, less power on the hammer, less pressure...

Ok, I will try that. I also have some epoxy that is almost done curing for a silencer for the barrel, so I will drill the hole and try that as well.

Well, I actually kind of already have pictures up, but not in this thread. Remember my vortex cap? Its that FE as the chamber and valve, with a extension spring attached to the handle, and the barrel is attached to the output. All of it is put in side my mauser stock from my sprinkler valve gun.

Knowing the teenage mind...I USED to be one you know. I find that story more than a little...dubious.warhead052 wrote:...my brother walked past the barrel just as it failed, and it shot him in the back...
You can reduce the power output by ;
reducing the striker mass
reducing striker spring preload / increasing valve spring preload
reducing striker travel (lengthening the valve stem has this same effect)
introducing a restriction between the valve and barrel (transfer port)
shortening the barrel

Thanks for the help so far, managed to make it really quiet and I don't have to worry about holes or anything. Now I need to make this fly really far.

If doing "one thing" slows it down....might not doing that "thing" the "opposite way" have the opposite effect?

Yeah I kinda learned that Gippeto... Didn't mean to, like I said. Trigger failed. The sear ended up breaking, and it triggered the gun.
Gun freak, it is kinda hard to explain, I just pull the top of the FE valve handle up, and hook it onto a sear, and then pull the trigger which pushes the sear and then releases the Fe handle smashing it into the valve releasing air. It works pretty well. I will try to get some pictures, but I may not be able to.
