The airsoft version is a beast, lots of nice old-fashioned wood and metal.  Shame it isn't semi-auto.

A bit  of shaping and polishing, need to find a socket head bolt for it and stick a foam pad on the end, might see what it weighs as well

Looks nice! What I've usually done for work surfaces is cut a piece of plywood in half lengthwise (3/4" or 18mm is what I've usually used) and glue it to itself, with possibly some hardboard glued on top as well (or a metal surface in your case), or just tape down kraft paper that I can write on, replace, etc. Then I place that on top of my desk/table/whatever.
